AMANDA

Amanda Flodin is a Swedish mezzo soprano with a passion for expressivity, chamber music, coloratura, timing and stage communication. That makes her perfect for performing early and contemporary music. Amanda Flodin är frilanssångerska med fokus på nutida och tidig musik samt att skapa ett starkt personligt uttryck i dessa stilar. 2021 ska Amanda gestalta karaktären Ann i världspremiären av Scener ur ett polyamoröst äktenskap, ett beställningsverk till det normkreativa operakompaniet Man Must Sing.

2020 sjöng Amanda en av de två rollerna i Sverigepremiären av kammaroperan As One (Kaminsky/ Reed/ Campbell) om en transkvinna. (Regi: Per Buhre) Hon sjöng också flera roller i Schola Gothias uppsättning av mysteriespelet Ordo Virtutum av Hildegard von Bingen.

2019 mottog Amanda  Västra Götalandsregionens arbetsstipendium. Hon turnerade med  “Dolcezza di morte” – ett program med kvinnliga 1600-talstonsättare tillsammans med Magnus Kjellson, Fredrik From och Anders Ericson från Göteborg Baroque.

Amanda mottog 2018 Konstnärsnämndens 2-åriga arbetsstipendium. I oktober 2018 uruppförde hon rollen som Evi i kammaroperan ”Kom inte hit” ‐ ett beställningsverk av det normkreativa operakompaniet Man Must Sing som belyser migrationspolitik och familjesplittring. Librettot är baserat på verkliga levnadsöden.

Amanda gestaltade karaktären Messagiera i den kritikerrosade uppsättningen av Monteverdis Orfeo med Göteborg Baroque på Röda Sten Konsthall. ”Amanda Flodins magnifika vokala och sceniska gestaltning” skrev Martin Nyström i Dagens Nyheter. Man Must Sings egenproducerade beställningsverk Akvarium valdes ut att spelas på Scenkonstbiennalen 2017 i konkurrens med all scenkonst framförd i Sverige under två år.

Amanda mottog Göteborgs Stads kulturstipendium 2017. Ur motiveringen: ”..lyckas Amanda hitta uttryck av högt konstnärligt värde som får oss att lyfta blicken från vardagen in i samtiden, tillbaka mot historien och in i oss själva”

Efter att ha blivit utsatt för näthat skapade Amanda 2016 tillsammans med Per Buhre och Utomjordiska föreställningen Witch, Bitch, Temptress, Feminist med barockmusik uteslutande komponerad av kvinnor. Föreställningen spelades på den feministiska festivalen Barocka Kvinnor på Röda Sten Konsthall i Göteborg och var en fusion av barockmusik, improvisation, performance och videoprojektioner med autentiskt näthat.

Tillsammans med Man Must Sing beställde, producerade och framförde Amanda rollen som Alice i kammaroperan Akvarium, med urpremiär 2016 på Atalante i Göteborg. Akvarium handlar om klimatångest, hemlöshet och positivt tänkande.

Amanda gjorde ett inhopp i Opera Estrads uppsättning av The Bear ﴾Walton﴿ på Kronhusteatern, där hon studerade in den kvinnliga huvudrollen med en veckas varsel. The Bear var världens första opera för döva, med både hörande sångare och döva skådespelare på scen. Amanda är sedan 2006 sångare i frigruppen Göteborg Baroque, där hon även sitter i det konstnärliga råd som tar fram ensemblens generalprogram

In 2021 Amanda will portray Ann in the world premiere of Scener ur ett polyamoröst äktenskap commissioned by the opera company Man Must Sing.

In 2020 Amanda performed one of the two parts in the Sweden premiere of the chamber opera As One (Kaminsky/ Reed/ Campbell) about a transgender woman. She also sang several parts in the mystery play Ordu Virtutum by Hildegard von Bingen.

In 2019 Amanda was rewarded with the cultural scholarship from the region of Västra Götaland. She performed the concert “Dolcezza di Morte” with music by female composers from the 17th century together with Magnus Kjellson, Anders Eriksson and Fredrik From from Göteborg Baroque in several important Swedish festivals.

Amanda was rewarded with  and the cultural scholarship from the city of Göteborg in 2017, a two-year grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee in 2018 and the cultural scholarship from the region of Västra Götaland in 2019 .

In 2018 Amanda sang the part of Evi in the world premiere of the chamber opera Kom inte hit! commissioned by her opera company Man Must Sing. The libretto was based on a true story and speaks about one of the most important issues of our time: migration. The same year Amanda performed the character Messagiera in Monteverdis Orfeo, and got reviews like “vocally and scenic magnificent”

In 2017, except for giving birth to a wonderful daughter, taking her to rehearsals, meetings and even bringing her on to the stage one time, Amandas opera company Man Must Sings chamber opera Akvarium was selected to be performed at The Swedish Biennale for performing arts (Scenkonstbiennalen) , Swedens largest festival for performing arts. Amanda was also very proud to be awarded with a one-year grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and the cultural scholarship from the city of Göteborg! “…Amanda manage to find artistic expressions that makes us forget every day life and reflect around our time, the history and the future”

2016 was a magic year for Amanda, with lots of dreams coming true! Together with Per T Buhre and Utomjordiska she created Witch, Bitch, Temptress, Feminist – a show about internet trolling towards women with baroque music written by female composers and authentic texts from the internet, see video or listen to excerpt! This was also the year for the world premiere of the contemporary chamber opera Akvarium, sang in Swedish about the climate change, being homeless and positive thinking. Akvarium was commissioned, produced and performed by the opera company Man Must Sing. Watch trailer! Finally Amanda did a jump-in in the chamber opera The Bear with Opera Estrad at Kronhusteatern, and learnt the female leading part in only one week…crazy and wonderful!

Amanda studied at the Academy of Music&Drama in Göteborg. During her studies she started to sing with distinguished groups like Göteborg Baroque and the independent baroque opera society Utomjordiska, which has been an invaluable experience for her artistic development!

Immediately after her final exams she got a wonderful contract in a vocal quartet at the Vara Concert Hall where she got the opportunity to sing concerts with Barbara Bonney, perform baroque opera with Andrew Lawrence King and give about 100 performances annually including children´s shows, contemporary staged music and much more.

Amanda has been doing French baroque opera in Swedish for teenagers, she has performed a staged version of the “Kanarievogel-Kantate” by Telemann (including throwing a toy cat at a lady in the audience), she has been singing Orfeo in a queer version of Gluck’s opera, she world premiered five big solo pieces at the Ljudvågor Festival in Visby 2014, she has been singing with a megaphone on her head and with molded latex on her torso. Whatever music or context, Amanda always tries to express something important.
